A Day at the Farms

This past Sunday was a GREAT day!  The weather was gorgeous, the kids were in good spirits, and Callie and I couldn’t wait to get out of the house and have our first real family outing (aside from visiting family).  We put the boys in full bodied jumpers, Mary threw on her hoody, I searched my summer stuff for Crocs and shorts, grabbed Calllie’s hand, and out the door we went.  My sister Nat, and our nieces Izzy and Jezenia joined us for the day.  I have to say, seeing things through the eyes of 7 year olds was a really interesting and unique experience.  Answering all their questions on the other hand, not so much!

First we went to Muscoot Farms, which is a small farm about 35 minutes from where we live.  There were so many families there having picnics and just enjoying the beautiful weather, but the first thing we noticed was that there weren’t many animals out.  After about an hour there, we had already seen everything there was to see, so we decided to head over to another farm called Green Chimneys.  Green Chimneys is AWESOME!!!  It’s a residential school for children with behavioral, emotional, and social challenges.  It’s for kids who have kind of been forgotten about because they are “hard to deal with”.  This school has a farm that is used for animal assisted therapy,and the work that they do in our county is incredible.  We’ve been there several times before when they do their huge spring and fall events.  Levi slept through most of the day, and Noah didn’t know which was to look!  Mary loved being able to pet all the animals, and she really loved learning about all of them.  I must have read 352,645,658,156 information plaques! We spent a good 3 hours there, had lunch, and went to go visit family afterwards.  For our first real outing, I have to say, it was pretty successful.  Hardly any crying from the boys, Mary didn’t need ANY band-aids (she’s sorta clumsy), and Mommy and Mama really enjoyed being outside and spending time with our kids.  Also, we forgot sunscreen…
